The latest volume in the HIDDEN PATHS - Walking Historical Kyoto series is now available in both paperback and digital formats from all regions of Amazon, links below. This new edition, Volume 5, also includes a bonus PARANORMAL KANSAI chapter featuring three new locations in Kyoto where paranormal activity has been reported at some point in the past.
HIDDEN PATHS Volume 5 features three all new walking routes in the series (together with volumes 1-4 that adds up to a total of 15 walks). These three takes us out of the heart of Kyoto City and into the ssurrounding areas. Without going into too great a detail and giving away the best of what is in the book, the first walking route in volume 5 is titled 'Shirakawa Momiji Valley, Uji' and leads from the Uji River on a hike through a woodland trail by a stream to the Hakusan Shrine. This is an area of Uji that the tourists fear to tread, or simply don't know about! The scenery is stunning and it is of course a location steeped in history.
Next up is 'Sewaritei and Otokoyama', any readers of the HIDDEN PATHS books will know that this means a return to Iwashimizu Hachimangu. This time though we will be going across the river and also taking a new route over and back down the mountain, and visiting some new and interesting sites.
Finally, 'Himukai Daijingu, the Goddess Cave, and Keage Incline'. Himukai Daijingu is an out of the way 'power spot' of Kyoto that also features a cave passageway connected to the Sun Goddess Amaterasu. Keage Incline is a location that draws tourist due to it scenery and also closeness to the famous Nanzen-ji but on this route it gives us a great opportunity to see how Kyoto is using technology to recreate the past.
