Last year, in part 1 we covered some of the changes to Taiyogaoko Park in recent years such as the hiking route, glamping style cafe, and the Kyoto Zip Line Adventure. In this post we'll take a closer look at the hiking route around the park. Pictured below is the route map of the course.
Point number 1 on the course starts at the top of one of the hilltops in the park, which is also the location of the Yamashiro Outdoor Living glamping style cafe and adventure play area (pictured below). See blog Part 1 for more pictures from the cafe and adventure play area and it's facilities. https://www.hiddenpathskyoto.com/post/a-day-in-the-greenery-of-taiyogaoka-park-uji-part-1
Follow the route from the point No. 1 marker post (below left) and after a short time you'll come to point No. 2, where close by is a resting hut, pictured below right.
The hut has seating inside and also information about the bird life that can be found in the park and the woodland in and around.
Be aware, as signposts will inform you, that there are monkeys in the park areas. It
would be rare to come across them but should you do so do not try to interact with or feed them! They are wild animals. Continue on for a while along this way and eventually the path leads to point No.3 marker post (pictured below).
From point No. 3 steps lead down, pictured below left. And then continue down further! See below pic right.
At the bottom of the winding steps the route can take two directions, to the left takes you to point No. 6, and to the right takes you to point No. 4. For this post we'll take the route to the left to No.6, which is actually the shorter of the routes back to full circle and the cafe hill at No.1. Pictured below is another resting hut before reaching point No. 6.
From here we follow the path laid out between the magnificently tall trees pictured below. Following this route will bring us to another option further along where we can take steps down to the right, going towards point No. 7, or head straight on which goes towards the cafe sight on the hill.
Picture below, the treetop walkway in the adventure play area comes into sight as you approach the cafe sight hill. We'll look more areas of the walking rout in Part 3 of this blog topic.
Access & Links
The nearest train station is the UJI JR station on the Nara Line. From here you'll need to take a bus to the park from the station. You can walk but it will take around 30 minutes.
There is a lot of parking space at the park so car access is available, parking fees are charged.
